BACKGROUND
I started making handmade jewelry in 2013. That led to me also making organic skincare and haircare products. I was going 'natural,' for those who don’t know what that means is I decided I no longer wanted to put chemicals in my hair to make it appear straight, and I was going to let it grow the way God, Allah, the Universe, etc., intended for it to grow; with all the kinks and curls and shrinkage.
The problem with going natural is that there weren’t many products for my hair type at the time. So I decided to make my own. Also, I’m acne-prone (rolling my eyes) hence the skincare.
GlamBoxNaturals was also the first website I coded. I was a visual designer back then, user experience was not a part of the process. This time around, I plan to leverage what I’ve learned as a UX/UI Designer, User Researcher, Product Designer, etc., into designing an E-commerce website.
I’ll be updating this project in real-time, check back often to see the amazing progress.
What I’ve got so far...
THE PSYCHOLOGY OF E-COMMERCE
THE THOUGHT PROCESS
- MAKING DECISIONS
Once you understand how people think when they're making purchasing decisions, you'll be able to influence those decisions positively.
The vast majority of our decision-making is processed at a sub-conscious level. When it comes to online purchasing, we don't consciously realize it, but our purchase is influenced by the site's design, product placement, and the way the company presents itself, amongst other factors.
The most extensive conscious action is executing the purchase, not making it.
Know Your Audience
To influence your customer's decisions you gotta know who your customers are.
The best way to do so, of course, is through research. Being that there are throves of information on customer behavior, for this project I'm going to utilize market research and competitive analysis.
